DISASTROUS SHOCKS CONTINUE: HELENA, MT - The death and damage toll rises as renewed temblors shake the city, bringing the fortnight’s total of ’quakes to nearly a thousand. Increasingly bitter weather hits the stricken population, many of whom are sheltered in railroad trains. Walls of the business section crash to earth as workmen strive to prevent further injuries. 1B. EARTHQUAKE SHAKES GOTHAM: NEW YORK, NY - A midnight shock smashes windows and rattles dishes in Manhattan, cracking the brick walls of Brooklyn homes and crumbling the supports of old frame buildings in that Borough. The Rev. Joseph J. Lynch, Director of Fordham Observatory, discusses the origin of the terrifying phenomenon in a newsreel interview. 2. HOLLYROOD WINS CLOSE RACE: BALTIMORE, MD - The thirteenth renewal of the rich Pimlico Futurity becomes a riot of excitement for twenty thousand spectators as the leaders enter the stretch neck and neck. In a fierce battle for first place, Silvio Coucci boots the Headley colt into the lead as the horses cross the line. 3. ETHIOPS PREPARE FOR BOMBS: ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA - The Italian envoy, Count Vinci-Gigliucci, makes his belated departure from the capital, leaving the soldiery and civilians in fear of deadly air raids. Military and citizens learn to use gas masks as thousands of war-inflamed tribesmen enter the city from their temporary camps on the outskirts. 4. NEW MODELS AT AUTO SHOW: NEW YORK, NY - The latest thing in automotive design, with many new safety devices in answer to the demand of public and officials for fewer road accidents, goes on display at the 1936 Auto Show. Wheels, springs, brakes, body design, all strike notes of comfort or luxury in cars for the coming season. 5. IRISH OVERCOME OHIO STATE: COLUMBUS, OH - A fighting, tearing Notre Dame eleven comes back in the final moments of play to wrest victory from defeat, conquering the Buckeyes by the score of 18 to 13 before a throng of 81,000. Furious rushing and an unbeatable aerial attack that send Ohio State’s gridmen reeling form the basis for one of the greatest comebacks in the history of the game.
