College Girls Study Flying (Universal Newsreel, Nov 1935)
Description
The original release sheet reads: 1. HAILE FETES CORONATION DAY: ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA - The worried Emperor lays aside the cares of State to take part in characteristic ceremonies marking the fifth anniversary of his accession to the throne as “King of Kings.” 2. COLLEGE GIRLS STUDY FLYING: PAINESVILLE, OH - A group of air-minded co-eds goes in for aviation in a big way, enrolling for the first course of its kind which gives them complete ground training and experience aloft with ’chutes and ’planes. 3. WINNIE MAE ON LAST JAUNT: BARTLESVILLE, OK - Wiley Post’s famous globe-girdling ’plane is carted away for its final journey, a trip half-way across the Continent to a place of honor in the Smithsonian Institution’s historical museum. 4. GIRLS TRY INDOOR SKI-ING: PARIS, FRANCE - Pretty residents of the French capital learn all about skiing at a new school which is complete with a slide surfaced with raffia. The new arrangement permits students to execute all possible maneuvers without danger of injury. 5. U.S. AIDS UNDERPAID WORKER: LONGVIEW, WA - The Federal Government chooses fifty-three breadwinners according to their industry and character, leasing the lucky ones and their families new homes, livestock and farming implements with which to supplement their incomes. 6. OLD CROCKS DARE ROAD AGAIN: LONDON, ENGLAND - A dozen automobiles of ancient vintage compete in a “speedy” race over rain-drenched streets and roads to Brighton. Several of the decrepit wrecks actually turn in a fine, if amusing, performance. 7. HOOSIERS SWEEP X-COUNTRY: NEW YORK, NY - Shorts flapping in the snowy breeze, contestants in the National A.A.U. Cross-Country race speed over the muddy trails of Van Cortlandt Park. Donald Lash, defending champion, wins again, with his teammates taking four or five places. 8. CHIMPANZEE TURNS FIREMAN: ATLANTIC CITY, NJ - The famous Jiggs joins the Fire Department, “rescuing” a pussy cat stranded on the roof of a “burning” building. The feline makes strangely little resistance to Jiggs’ rather peculiar life-saving methods. 9. DEATH DODGERS DO JUST THAT: MEMPHIS, TN - A squad of daredevil motorcycle and automobile drivers bounce their machines over ramps into crashes and drive them screeching through screens of fire for the sole purpose of thrilling the crowd.
