Ees Stricter Neutrality (Universal Newsreel, Dec 1935)
Description
The original release sheet reads: 1. TOP ROW WINS XMAS STAKES: ARCADIA, CA - A record West Coast throng turns out for inaugural day at Santa Anita track. Excitement rules the stands as Top Row comes from behind to nose out the leaders by a neck in a stirring finish. 2. BRIDGE MAKES THE BIG TIME: NEW YORK, NY - Every play indicated by seven-foot cards shuffled before the eyes of a large crowd in Madison Square Garden, bridge experts from France and the United States engage in an international match. The Americans triumph. 3. EES STRICTER NEUTRALITY: WASHINGTON, D.C. - Senator Nye of the Munitions Investigating Committee declares in a timely newsreel interview that the present United States neutrality act is only a stop-gap. He sees the forthcoming Congress enacting a tighter measure. 4. WOMEN GIVE GOLD TO ITALY: ROME, ITALY - Led by their Queen, loyal wives give up their golden wedding rings to aid their country’s cause. Tokens of iron are handed them in exchange as they toss their marriage bands into a huge public “cauldron.” 5. BEACH GALS RACE TERRAPINS: MIAMI BEACH, FL - Fair winter visitors bar the fleet-footed rabbit in a contest among a group of ponderous sea turtles which “zip” down the course at a rate not very closely approximating Sir Malcolm Campbell’s record run. 6. WINTER BLANKETS EAST COAST IN FRIGID MANTLE OF WHITE: ATLANTA, GA - A severe sleet storm sheathes the community in ice, paralyzing communications. 7. MAT BOUT GOES QUINTUPLET IN WRESTLING BATTLE-ROYAL: LAKE WORTH, FL - With the cry of “Anything goes!” five pachyderms instead of the traditional two begin a ring mix-up packed with wild hilarity and unbelievable tactics as each wrestler tears into the other four. The referee bravely enters the arena only to find himself drawn into the maelstrom of tangled bone-crushers. (LOCAL – PORTLAND) POLICE BASKETS FOR NEEDY.
