“Prince” Eats Scrap Metal (Universal Newsreel, Feb 1936)

Description

The original release sheet reads: 1. EMPIRE MOURNS AS KING IS BURIED IN IMPRESSIVE RITE: LONDON, ENGLAND - The mortal remains of George V are borne through the streets of the capital, jammed with silent, mourning humanity. Kings, princes and diplomats follow the bier to Paddington Station and then to Windsor Castle where in solemn requiem the curtain slowly descends on the monarch’s life. 2. “PRINCE” EATS SCRAP METAL: LOS ANGELES, CA - An Algerian “nobleman,” detained by the police, refuses ordinary prison fare and calls for a diet of nuts, bolts and screws. He heats his strange fare with a blowtorch and turns cups, saucers and plates into “dessert.” 3. WOMAN CLINGS TO SHIP HOME: BOSTON, MA - A former New York society woman and her son refuse to abandon the hulk of an ancient sailing vessel which has been their home for five years. Authorities demand that the dilapidated schooner be removed from its dangerous mooring in the harbor. 4. COAST LOOKS OVER BOW-WOWS: SAN FRANCISCO, CA - The twenty-seventh annual Pacific Coast dog show draws a thousand prize canines of all sizes, shapes and breeds to a yipping, tail-wagging exhibition held under the auspices of the Golden Gate Kennel Club. 5. “HELL DRIVERS” CRASH CARS, MOTORBIKES TO THRILL CROWD: MIAMI, FL - The renowned “Lucky Teter” and his death-defying companions drive automobiles into a head-on collision or turn a machine over and over in a rattling, roaring upset. Motorcycles dash through walls of flame to curdle the blood of spectators. 6. BATH-HOUSE PROBLEM IN BAG: VENICE, CA - Fair bathers figure out a way to beat the bath-house tax, changing from street clothes to swimming suits right on the beach, their charms temporarily hiding in big dressing bags that fold into tiny bundles for carrying purposes. 7. ALPINE PATROL AT 13 BELOW: ROLLE PASS, ITALY - Il Duce’s strong-limbed Alpine troops guard the Austro-Italian frontier high in the Dolomites. Heavy snows force the soldiers to wear skis and go through their maneuvers in sub-zero temperatures. (LOCAL – BUFFALO) GALES SWEEP NORTHERN CITY.
