WEARY GOTHAM MOURNS LIFTS: NEW YORK CITY - Foot-sore householders and workers nurse tired tootsies as they climb innumerable stairs in 1,300 towering apartment and office buildings deprived of elevator service by an operators strike. 2. HUGE DAM GOES INTO ACTION: BOULDER DAM, AR - The stupendous engineering job passes another milestone as a spillway is opened for the first time, pouring a great spout of water into the river far below and marking the project’s completion for Government operation. 3. OCTUPLETS UPSET FIRE HOUSE: CANARSIE, NY - Eight Dalmatian puppies arrive to Bessie, pride and joy of Engine Company 237. The firemen’s elation is slightly tinged with earache as the lusty youngsters try their lungs, but everybody wants a turn at feeding the spotted babies. 4. HAIR STYLES GO CURL, WHIRL: CHICAGO, IL - Pierre Andre uses raffia braids, blue gardenias and transparent lacquer to dress up Milady’s whirling, curling tresses in exotic styles for Spring exhibited at the Merchandise Mart. 5. BIG WOODS COMES TO GOTHAM: NEW YORK CITY - Mountains, streams and woodland paths miraculously appear inside Grand Central Palace, a step from teeming metropolitan pavements, as a Sportsmen’s Show brings all the life and paraphernalia of the great outdoors to the city. 6. BLASTS HALT FLOOD MENACE: AMITY HALL, PA - A ton of dynamite, exploded in rending bursts, tears a channel for the release of flood waters covering the community for days. A highway is also blown up to free high water locked behind ice gorges many miles in length. 7. ROOSTER PACKS OWN ‘CHUTE: DOTHAN, AL - Little Billy adds hedge-hopping to the bantam’s normal activities, going in for aeroplane rides. The bird delights in bailing out, gliding to a perfect landing instead of waiting for the ‘plane to come down. 8. RESTORE FAMED OLD MISSION: SAN JUAN, CA - Earthquake havoc requires repairs to San Juan Bautista, largest of the State’s historic edifices. Descendants of the structure’s 1797 builders follow the colorful methods of olden days in restoring the mission. 9. MESKE LOSES IN TAIL SPIN: NEW YORK CITY - Ernie Dusek takes a vicious slapping around from Ed Meske for a large part of their heavy-weight wrestling bout at Madison Square Garden, but comes through with a quick bit of shoulder work and an airplane spin to capture the match.
