Description

The original release sheet reads: 1. 16 DIE IN BUILDING CRASH: NEW YORK, NY - A new apartment building collapses as it nears completion, trapping scores of workmen in a shambles of twisted timbers and brick. A two-day search reveals the bodies of sixteen dead while ten still remain in the hospital, several in a critical condition. 2. RELIEF PILOT WINS CLASSIC: LANGHORNE, PA - Floyd Davis, substituting for the regular driver, comes home first in the grueling 100-mile dirt track race. Forty thousand witness the event, the first victory at this distance for Davis, who crosses the finish line six miles to the good. 3. CATERPILLARS INVADE: NORTH SUDBURY, ONTARIO - Cold weather brings an end to the menace as millions of caterpillars reach the peak of their invasion and enter the cocoon stage. But this only came after they caused untold damage to crops and property, even stopping railroad trains when they swarmed over tracks. 4. WAR BREAKS OUT IN STRIKE: KENT, OH - Fourteen men are wounded in a bloody clash between strikers and strikebreakers when rioting started after two vans of strikebreakers crashed the gates of a manufacturing plant. For six hours guns barked between the pickets and besieged strikebreakers. 5. FIND NEW THRILL FOR RESORT: CHICAGO, IL - Riverview Park unfolds the latest thrill for summer crowds. From a tower 220 feet above the ground you drop off in a “pair-o-chute” for a thirty-second ride to mother earth—but those thirty seconds hold all the thrill of bailing out from a crippled plane. 6. ELI CONQUERS HARVARD EIGHT: NEW LONDON, CT - The Junior Varsity crew from Yale downs the Crimson in a duel that proves the most thrilling of the traditional meet between the two schools. F.D. Roosevelt, Jr., rows No. 6 with the losing eight as members of his family watch from the train. 7. BUDS BLANKET CITY STREETS: GENZANO, ITALY - The feast of Corpus Christi brings about the revival of the ancient festival of medieval Italy, the “In fiorata.” Beautiful mosiacs, composed of millions of flowers and buds, cover the streets the religious procession will pass, creating a breath-taking sight. 8. GERMAN SMILES HIS VICTORY: NEW YORK, NY - Max Schmeling, triumphant in his amazing victory over Joe Louis, presents a battered but joyful smile when interviewed after the fight. 10 to 1 when he entered the ring to meet the “invincible” Brown Bomber, Max upset the well-known apple cart—decisively. 9. HOLLYROOD WINS RICH DERBY: CICERO, IL - Hollyrood takes his place with top-ranking three-year-olds as he captures the Chicago Derby just one week after his victory in the Detroit Derby. Although second choice, he showed his heels to a smart field to finish just short of a track record.
