SPAIN’S DECISIVE BATTLE ON: MADRID, SPAIN - Government troops are seen under actual fire as they crouch behind barricades or defend trenches in the great battle for the capital. Pitiful victims of air raids show the terror they have endured. 2. WILDWOOD INVADING GOTHAM: NEW YORK CITY - The Big Town’s tenderfeet have forest, mountain and stream brought to their doorsteps as the Sportsman’s Show opens at Grand Central Palace. Real, live animals vie for attention with all the trappings of the outdoor life. 3. STRIKERS FIRM UNDER GAS: WAUKEGAN, IL - A furious gas attack fails to dislodge a group of more than a hundred sit-down strikers besieged in the Fansteel auto parts plant. The strikers smash windows to clear the factory of the nauseous fumes, but hold their ground. 4. ARMY BIRDMEN SHOW PROWESS: MT. CLEMENS, MI - The members of the Army Air Corps put enormous bombers and fast little pursuit planes through intricate maneuvers and difficult formation flights during a winter session as Selfridge Field. 5A/B. SHIP SUNK IN RIVER CRASH: PRESCOTT, OR - A big American freighter and the Italian motorship Feltre collide in the Columbia River during a driving rainstorm. The Feltre’s crew escape as the vessel settles to the bottom of the river with only her stacks and upper deck out of water. / MARINES DIE IN NAVY BLAST: SAN PEDRO, CA - The U.S.S. Wyoming steams sadly into port bearing the bodies of seven Marines killed in a tragic explosion in one of her five-inch gun turrets. Thirteen other men were injured in the blast which occurred during secret maneuvers. 6A/B. PERSONALITIES IN THE NEWS: VIENNA, AUSTRIA - The exiled Dike of Windsor meets his sister, the Princess Royal. / CHICAGO, IL - Heavyweight champion Jim Braddock signs to defend his title against Joe Louis. 7. LACE GOWNS ADD QUEENLINESS: MIAMI, FL - Lovely girls take on a regal appearance as they show lace gowns and negligees at a big preview of costumes to be worn at a Lace Ball shortly to be held at the Miami-Biltmore Country Club. 8. BOY, PET PUPS CATCH MUMPS: LYNBROOK, NY - When six-year-old Herbert Winsett, Jr., caught the mumps, he turned to his pets for consolation. Now Herbert, seven dogs and eleven separate and distinct puppies are suffering from that painful swelling of the face. 9. FINANCE WINS HIALEAH RACE: MIAMI, FL - (Exclusive) Finance gallops across the finish line in the McLennan Memorial Stakes a scant winner over Maeriel after a battle down the stretch that arouses the enthusiasm of a big crowd of turf fans.
