Description
The original release sheet reads: 1. ARMY GETS FLYING FORTRESS: LANGLEY FIELD, VA - Uncle Sam’s Army Air Corps receives and tests a gigantic new Boeing bomber, so big and powerful it’s known as the “Flying Fortress.” The enormous machine is powered with four 850-h.p. motors and develops tremendous speed. 2. SITDOWNS SOCK SOCK PLANTS: READING, PA - The latest rash of sitdown strikes develops in the hosiery mills of Berks County. Hundreds of workers sit down for a siege in various factories. Others, locked out, picket the plant they worked in before the dispute began. 3. GIANTS LIMBER UP IN CUBA: HAVANA, CUBA - The New York ball club gets an early start with its Spring training at Tropical Stadium in the capital of the Island Republic. Regulars and rookies take the kinks out of winter-bound muscles on the Cuban diamond. 4. YOUNG IDEA LEARNS TO STEP: WASHINGTON, D.C. - Tots from two to four years of age begin to study early in this dancing age. The Julia Cunningham school teaches the wobbly youngsters rhythm with stretching exercises and dance steps to be learned, just like the grownups. 5. DRIVERS DARE RACE DANGERS: PAU, FRANCE - Demons of the wheel zip their machines at breath-taking speeds around the sharp and deadly turns of the famous Grand Prix automobile course. Narrow escapes are frequent as the contestants speed on. 6. YOUNG CHIMP GETS BABY CARE: BALTIMORE, MD - (Exclusive) Not satisfied to let Darwin rest as pure theory, scientists at the Johns Hopkins Medical School are intent on giving a 60-day-old chimpanzee the same care and environment that a human baby would receive—just to see what will happen. 7. CUBANS CELEBRATE FREEDOM: HAVANA, CUBA - President Laredo Bru, “Strong Man” Batista and other members of the Government review a brilliant parade commemorating the 42d anniversary of the outbreak of the Island’s long and bitter fight for independence. 8. PERFORMER HAS ‘SWELL’ TIME: MEMPHIS, TN - Tami calls himself the “Balloon Man” and he means what he says. His stomach can be blown up with a pump from a girth of 41 inches to 75 inches. Then Tami can stand sledge-hammer blows from a 500-lb man. 9. BEAUTIES IN ‘PRELIMINARIES’: MIAMI, FL - Those good-looking candidates for the title of Miss Florida are patting their silken curls into place again as the contest approaches. “Preliminary” tryouts are held to weed out a few of the big list of contenders. 10. SKIERS RISK BROKEN BONES: LACONIA, NH - One ski enthusiast cracks his hip and a couple of ribs in a spectacular leap at the Eastern Championships meet. Others take dazzling jumps with less injury, with Norwegians capturing first and second places. 11. ‘BEAVERS’ STAGE BATTLE ROYAL: LAKE WORTH, FL - A tough collection of bewhiskered behemoths engages in a wrestling Battle Royal that for sheer roughness makes college football look like ping-pong. When punches and kicks won’t work, one man uses a chair on his opponent.
