Mrs. Simpson Takes Chateau (Universal Newsreel, Mar 1937)
Description
The original release sheet reads: 1. 100,000 AUTO WORKERS MASS: DETROIT, MI - A tremendous throng of union automobile workers meets in Cadillac Square for a rousing demonstration against court orders for the eviction of sit-down strikers. The big crowd cheers its leaders in a great burst of enthusiasm. 2. SCOOTERS DARE DIZZY GRADE: BISBEE, AZ - (Exclusive) Daring pushmobile drivers actually take their lives in their hands as they race their flimsy “machines” down the steep, winding course of a mountain road. Three of the machines collide, but fortunately no-one is pushed over a cliff. 3. 19TH HOLE TAKES TO WHEELS: MIAMI, FL - The weary golfer no longer needs to trudge all the way around the course to the Nineteenth Hole before he—or she—can order a refreshing drink. The Biltmore Country Club is now operating a bar on wheels that covers the links. 4. EXPOSITION QUEEN ELECTED: PARIS, FRANCE - The big French Exposition this year wouldn’t be complete unless it had a Queen to guide its destinies. So a careful jury examines contestants for beauty and charm, picking a really lovely girl as Miss Exposition 1937. 5. CITY SUED BY HOMESTEADERS: OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - (Exclusive) A group of old pioneers wins a claim against the community for several million dollars. Long ago, they granted a railroad a right of way through their land—but the road illegally sold out the property to the city. 6. CITY DEMOLISHES OLD CRATES: PORTLAND, OR - Municipal authorities round up all the creaking, broken-down automobiles in their jurisdiction to make a field day for 20,000 spectators. Set ablaze, the machines are hurled from a catapult into a deep ravine. 7. MRS. SIMPSON TAKES CHATEAU: TOURAINE, FRANCE - The world-famous Baltimore beauty leaves the Riviera to establish residence at the lovely old Chateau de Cande where she lives in seclusion, waiting for the British courts to grant her final decree of divorce. 8. SIRENS DISPLAY ‘LIVING’ ART: MIAMI BEACH, FL - (Exclusive) The bathing girls brighten up the landscape still further by having pictures painted on their backs. The walking art galleries, however, are still none too eager to take a chance on a plunge into the surf. 9. COSSACKS SHOW HORSEMANSHIP: MOSCOW, U.S.S.R. - Famous Cossack horsemen ride again, gathering from their farms for an exciting equestrian contest. The men show themselves utterly without fear as they perform amazing evolutions on thundering horses. 10. PROF. NUTTS SOLVES PROBLEM: WAUKESHA, WI - (Exclusive) Our old friend, the Sage of Waukesha, is in again—with another of his devices to make living more pleasant. This time, the Professor takes the difficulties out of grapefruit, that vicious citrus that dotes on squirting juice in the human eye.
