Description

The original release sheet reads: 1. FIND WRECKAGE OF TRANSPORT LOST IN DECEMBER ACCIDENT: ALPINE, UT - High up near the summit of an 11,000-foot granite cliff, searchers find the blasted remains of a Western Air Express ’plane, missing since December with its twelve passengers and crew. Deep snow covers the bodies of the victims. 2. THOSE INVENTORS ARE BACK!: NEW YORK CITY - The guys who can invent time and labor savers—not to mention a goofy gadget or so—are in session at the Hotel Edison. This time, they’ve got a machine that produces dimples, a one-man submarine and a few other unbelievable contraptions. 3. RHODODENDRONS IN GAY BLOOM: PORT TOWNSEND, WA - (Exclusive) Thousands of rhododendron trees burst into colorful bloom, covering scores of acres with marvelous flowers. Festivities mark the occasion, but fair flower-pickers are cared—momentarily—by a little wild bear. 4. CANARY GOES 100% AMERICAN: PASADENA, CA - He may be a bird from the Hartz Mountains of Europe, but he’s taken out his naturalization papers. This canary can whistle “Yankee Doodle” and he does, with fine attention to detail and an amazing ability to stay on key. 5. BRONX HAS GAS-MASK FLOWER: NEW YORK CITY - The Bronx Botanical Garden exhibits the world’s largest flower, an eight-foot affair, but attendants have to wear gas masks to examine the dainty thing. It’s the amorphophallus titanium, big enough and ugly enough to send anyone into a nervous breakdown. 6. KIDS ON STRANGE ZOO RIDES: PHILADELPHIA, PA - Some youngsters have ridden on elephants before, but not in the style they enjoy at the Philadelphia Zoo. If comfort is wanted more than speed, they can gallop along on the back of a 300-pound tortoise that dotes on bananas. 7. MILES OF FOREST SET ABLAZE: SCAPPOOSE, OR - (Exclusive) Hundreds of C.C.C. and volunteer workers battle for days against a forest fire that places its searing mark on 3,000 acres of fine timber land. An Old Folks’ Home is saved from the conflagration, but the fight goes on to bring the fire under control. 8. ROYALTY WATCHES OUTSIDER ROMP TO VICTORY IN DERBY: EPSOM DOWNS, ENGLAND - King George and Queen Elizabeth join a tremendous throng of their countrymen and women to watch a thrilling revival of the historic Derby. Midday Sun captures the event, driving to the line in a gallant battle with the favorite.
