Steel Strike Battles Rage (Universal Newsreel, Jun 1937)
Description
The original release sheet reads: 1. STEEL STRIKE BATTLES RAGE: MONROE, MI - Embattled opponents fight it out in sharp clashes, with police and “vigilantes” mixing it up with strikers from independent steel plants. Several are gassed and injured, but Gov. Murphy sends in the militia to ward off further loss of life and property. 2. 298 CADETS GIVEN DIPLOMAS: WEST POINT, NY - It’s a great day for the “Future Generals” as their four years of study come to a close with a gala pageant at the United States Military Academy. A brilliant parade is followed by the award of 298 diplomas to the graduates. 3. SUBURBAN HEIRESS KIDNAPPED: STONY BROOK, NY - Alice McDonnell Parsons disappears from her home and a ransom note demanding payment of $25,000 is received by her frantic husband William. G-Men investigate queer angles of the case as the woods are searched for the woman’s body. 4. BOYS IN GREY MARCH AGAIN: JACKSON, MI - Confederate Veterans hold their 47th Annual Reunion, complete with a big parade. But many of those who wear the Grey are too old to march in the heat. There are enough others, though, who can trip the light fantastic with the younger folks. 5. THRONGS CHEER FLORAL FETE: PORTLAND, OR - Widespread flower gardens furnish the gorgeous blooms that decorate a monster procession. Roses hold the place of honor as wonderful, flower-decked floats carrying pretty girls in costume pass through streets lined by thousands of spectators. 6. METER MEASURES GALS’ CURVES: VENICE, CA - The open season is on for bathing beauties—and the hard-working cameramen are right on hand to “shoot” their prey. West Coast sirens prepare for the “Miss California” battle by fitting their allure into the cutout of a “perfect” figure. 7. COWBOYS TRY A “BEEF-SHAKE”: LIVERMORE, CA - The annual rodeo proves again that hamburger fried is a lot more digestible than the same thing on the hoof. Vicious steers and wild-eyed bronchos have a grand time tossing their would-be “busters” around. (SPECIAL) WINDSOR WEDS ‘WOMAN I LOVE’ (Pre-Release: Shipped Air Express to All Accounts): MONTS, FRANCE - The Duke of Windsor, once King Edward VIII, is married to Mrs. Wallis Warfield, the American beauty for whom he forsook his imperial crown. The world-famous lovers enjoy a double ceremony, with England’s “Poor Man’s Parson” performing religious rites. (LOCAL – TEXAS) AMERICAS UNITED FOR FAIR.
