This is the kind of service that holds customers.” “Let’s take a little ride -- I want to show you something.” Representative and dealer get into automobile, drive off, pull up in front of garage. “Gosh, this fellow handles Rangers too.” “How’s business.” Men shake hands. “Fine…never so busy in my life…Ford work is getting better every day.” Dealer says to Ford representative… “This fellow ought to be cut off the discount list. We should get his Ford repair business.” Two men return to the automobile. “The alley garage.” “These are the kind of places Bill that have been taking our business away.” Men drive up to the dealer’s garage, get out of automobile and converse. “I never realized we were asleep on the job until now. He ain’t done no fixin’ fer us since last year.” “The old bus ain’t been running any too good, maybe we better let Sparks look ’er over tomorrow when we go in town.” “The next day -- results.” Boy drives up to garage, shakes hands and says to dealer. “You sure have been perkin’ up around here.” “Well, Jimmy, what can I do for you today.” “Pa got your letter and he told me to bring the car here cause it ain’t been running very good.” “Your car will be ready for you at 3 o’clock.” “At 3 o’clock.” Car is driven out of garage, boy drives off. “Another new customer.” Woman drives up, gets out of car, says to dealer… “My, how nice and clean your place looks now.” “I received a nice little letter from Mr. Sparks about my car. I don’t know whether it will pay to fix it up. How much would you allow me for it on a new one.” “I don’t know, ma’am, but I think you better let us tune up your car -- it won’t cost much and then it will be in A-1 shape.” “Luke’s one of Walter’s mechanics, never had an idea until now. He decides to pick up a little business after hours.” Man drives up to house parks, goes to front door, man comes out and both converse beside old car in driveway. “Well, it sounds pretty good. I don’t know about your new shop. I’ll give you a trial in the next few days.” “Pay day.” Mechanic receive pay envelopes - close-up of one. “Luke McGinis with bonus for parts and repair labor.” “Luke’s commission is an inspiration to the other employees.” “Business has made Sparks’ garage a bee hive. The branch manager takes pride in showing other dealers how Walter has made good.” Visitors tour the garage. “My net profit for June was $1,407.80.” “This service campaign is the best thing I ever did. The boys are all doing better work and making more money. The customers are satisfied and we have never been so busy.” Branch manager shakes hands, leaves. “The old banker has had his order in for 4 months, but still drives his Model T.” Man seated behind desk, looks at photograph. “I wonder when I’m going to get that new car.” “Come on over to the garage, I want to see you right away.” “Hello Walter. I’ll bet you’ve got my new car.” Man drives up to garage, gets out shakes hands. “Here it is!” “I’m glad I listened to you about keeping my Model T in commission until now. I am money ahead and I’m getting the best car on the market.” Both men drive off in Model A sedan. “A lesson in new Ford performance.” “Surprised but pleased.” Speedometer reaches 65 - car passes another on a highway. “Dreams do come true.” Man boards passenger plane. “Well, so long fellows.” Plane with ‘Detroit to Cleveland’ sign takes off. “The End.” [1927]
