Description
The original catalog description provided by the Ford Motor Company reads as follows: “The magneto assembly is completed when the fly wheel is attached to the crankshaft.” Workers attach flywheel to crank shaft. “Attaching the head and front plate cover completes the assembly of the motor unit which is then removed to the final assembly line.” Workers attach head and front plate cover, motor is placed on conveyor belt. “In the meantime the differential and transmission are assembled in the housing.” Worker assembles these parts in the housing. “This meets the motor on the final assembly.” Housing is placed next to motor. “On the moving conveyor the final parts are assembled and the Fordson takes on an appearance familiar to most of us.” Workers on assembly line attach radiator, gas tank, place assembly on body frame, roll tractor off end of the line, adds gasoline and oil. “They start like old timers.” Man drives tractor away from assembly line. “They receive a final inspection --” Worker inspects tractor. “-- and a final coat of paint.” Men painting tractors. “Thus the gallant knight Fordson, clad in armor and bearing a standard of service is created.” Workers in Fordson plant attach rig to tractor which is picked up from assembly line and carried away by an overhead crane. “Its destination may be any place in the world but its purpose remains the same.” Railroad freight train with sign, ‘Fordson Farm Tractors’ on boxcars - sign, ‘Trainload for England’ - man crosses tracks to train. “The power thought built.” Men inspect tractor parked at curb outside dealer’s showroom - man drives tractor away from curb, along a dirt road - farm family examines tractor parked in barnyard - tractor-drawn agricultural implements - plow, cultivators, reapers - workers load hay aboard tractor-drawn wagon - tractor powered grain separator in operation - men load bags aboard a truck - flour mill beside river falls - truck drives into receiving area. “And when the staff of life is prepared and set upon the world’s table -- the fruits of Fordson labor are realized.” Farm workers seated in field, eating - tractors and grain in background. “The End.” [1922]
