Here the ingots are lengthened preparatory to rolling.” Trainload of hot ingots moving through plant yard - ingots being removed from soaking pit by crane, dropped into bloom mill, moving through mill, being rolled into rods. “In the rolling mill the steel is rolled into bars.” Ingots moving through rolling mill - rods in bloom mill - hot pipe moving across machine knocking sand core out of it. “From now on the steel is shaped into Model ‘A’ parts. Making ring gears.” Steel bar being heated in furnace, shaped by presses - worker displaying forged ring gear, polished gear. “The aim of present day manufacturing is to lighten the work of the men with automatic machinery.” Machine in operation. “Ring gears.” Machine cutting teeth on gear - hand displaying finished gear. “Crankshaft.” Machining crankshaft by machine. “Camshaft.” Polishing camshaft by machine. “Electric resistance welding, made practicable by Ford development, makes the Model ‘A’ an entirely steel car.” Worker assembling wire spokes to rim and hub, welding by machine - wheels on conveyor. “The pressed steel building.” Large room with many presses, workers, body parts being stamped out. “In the spring and upset building. Here is the greatest installation of electric furnaces in the world.” Long row of electric furnaces, workers heating and shaping steel. [1926]
