Description
The original release sheet reads: DONNA SCOURGES SEABOARD Hurricane Donna, after its deadly course through the Caribbean and the heart of Florida, slashes up the Atlantic Coast. The killer storm brushes New Jersey and the New York metropolitan area with gale force winds and torrential rains, then hits eastern Long Island with full force, and batters on into New England following closely the track of the disastrous 1938 hurricane. One of the most destructive tropical storms in history, Donna takes a heavy toll. IKE AT COUNTRY FAIR Week-ending at his Gettysburg farm, Ike visits the Arendtsville, Pa., county fair – viewing the arts and crafts exhibits, trying his throwing arm at a midway booth, and laughingly passing up a palmistry booth. MISS AMERICA – 1961 Miss America 1961 is chosen in the latest edition of the glittering Atlantic City, N.J., beauty pageant. She’s lovely Nancy Anne Fleming of Montague, Michigan, not only a beauty but a straight A student with career plans in food and fashion. OLYMPIC HIGHLIGHTS Highlights of the closing days of the Rome Olympics. In the 1500 meter metric mile, Australia’s HERB ELLIOTT proves unbeatable, winning easily in record time. RAFER JOHNSON wins the grueling decathlon, edging out fellow Uclan C.K. YANG of Taiwan. In the 400 meter race, OTIS DAVIS, who barely made the team, sets a blazing pace for a spectacular victory. Pole vaulter DON BRAGG performs as expected for another U.S. gold medal. In the women’s 400 meter relay, a group of Tigerbelles from Tennessee State U., are anchored by the heroine of the U.S. team, WILMA RUDOLPH, who wins her third gold medal of the Games, only track and field athlete to turn the trick.
