Description

The original release sheet reads: CASTRO LAUNCHES INVASION SCARE Fidel Castro mobilizes 200,000 militiamen, charging America with arming mercenaries for an “imminent invasion” of Cuba, on the eve of the UN debate of Cuban charges of American aggression. In Moscow, Khrushchev greets visiting Cuban journalists and throws his support behind Castro’s charges. SATCHMO SWINGS IN CONGO One of America’s most extraordinary ambassadors, Louis Armstrong, arrives in the troubled Congo with his jazz band on a State Department-sponsored good-will mission, and receives a real swinging reception. CANADA VIEW FOR FASHION HONORS Canada bids for parity on the world fashion scene with the traditional centers of haut couture, and an opulent collection shown in Toronto, ranging from sparkling sports wear, to the ultimate in evening elegance, is a stunning and convincing demonstration. FOOTBALL PITTSBURGH UPSETS SYRACUSE: At Syracuse, the Orangemen, boasting the longest major collegiate winning string in football, are upset 10-0 by the underdog Pittsburgh Panthers in a hard fought but clearly decisive match. NAVY DOWNS NOTRE DAME: At Philadelphia, Navy stays in the ranks of the unbeaten with a 14-7 victory over Notre Dame, sparked by the brilliant play by Joe Bellino who scores both of the Midshipmen’s tallies.
