(X) 17 January 1955 PART-I NATIONALIST CHINESE FORCES CONTINUE TRAINING UNDER WATCHFUL EYE OF U.S. ADVISORS (Official Army Footage Released by Department of Defense) At Taichung, Formosa, Island stronghold of the Republic of China, Chinese Nationalist Infantrymen and Engineers under- go rigorous training under the supervision of the U.S. Military Assistance Advisory Group assigned there. Training exercises such as the one depicted have helped materially to streamline the Chinese military organization and prepare better trained fighting men. Sequences show: (a) Under the supervision of U.S. personnel who are readily available for consultation and assistance, Chinese Nationalist forces using planks and bamboo erect a wooden bridge across a shallow river. The pieces are connected by rope. (b) Nationalist forces map their strategy along the banks of the river. Their equipment is supplied under the provisions of the U.S. Mutual Defense Assistance Program. (c) The Engineers handiwork provides the means of advance for the ground troops and the assault continues. REQUEST CREDIT IN TITLE OR COMMENTARY TO DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE The fine grain master positive was released today in New York to the newsreel company named above for dupli- cation and distribution to all members of the newsreel pool. After sufficient copies have been made, the master positive is to be sent to the Film Library, Signal Corps Photographic Center, 35-11 35th Avenue, Long Island City N. Y., which, in turn, will return it to this office. The master positive must not be cut in any manner. A dupe negative was released today in New York to TV company named above for duplication and distribution to all members of the television pool and to non-members who make satisfactory financial arrangements. They will de- liver the dupe negative to Mr. Samuel Schlein, DeLuxe Laboratories, 850 Tenth Avenue, New York, N. Y., telephone Circle 7-3220, within 24 hours after receipt. DeLuxe Laboratories will make copies for authorized television companies at the latter's expense and upon request. E49858
