TMENT OF DEPARTMENT NEWSFILM RELEASE OFFICE OF ASSISTANT SECRETARY OF DEFENSE (PUBLIC AFFAIRS) UNITED AMERICA WASHINGTON, D.C. - 20301 STATES OF PLEASE NOTE DATE - IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 13, 1968 0X7-6161 Number: V-280-68 Footage 701 Time 1:57 Room 2E 773 Filmed: 16 August 1968 16mm color composite print HELICOPTERS HELP MOBILE ARVN TROOPS COMB DELTA AREA (Official Department of Defense motion picture film by the U.S. Air Force under the direction of the MAC V Office of Information. Photography by SSgt Lyons; sound by Alc E11.) Vietnamese Air Force helicopters are the answer for mobile ARVN and "Ruff-Puff" (Regional Forces-Popular Forces) troops in their need to move in and out of areas quickly. In combat operations against the enemy in the Mekong Delta, two squadrons of helicopters transport thousands of combat troops each month. The copters pick up the troops in a forward area, buzz them to their landing zone in groups of ten men per helicopter, then leave as quickly as they've come. On the ground, the troops engage in search and clear missions or function as diversionary forces. Their mission completed, the copters come in to extract them and reinsert them into another area. In this fast moving fashion, the helicopters provide the mobility necessary for the Vietnamese Armed Forces to meet the threat posed by the enemy in the delta.
