Description

The original release sheet reads: 1A. U.S. AID CAN BEAT NAZIS, HOPKINS SAYS: NEW YORK, NY - Harry Hopkins returns from England after a month's tour as President Roosevelt's special representative, convinced that Hitler can be beaten by Britain, with material help from the U.S. 1B. 750 NAVAL RESERVES SWORN IN: ANNAPOLIS, MD - The U.S. Naval Academy hits a wartime pace, as hundreds of new reservists are sworn in as part of the fleet speed-up program. After a three-month course, they'll be ready for active duty afloat! 1C. AIRCRAFT WORKERS REWARDED: BUFFALO, NY - Employees of Curtiss and Bell factories are special guests of Uncle Sam—to get a glimpse of the fighter planes they're turning out. The first time most of them have seen the finished product! 1D. BOMBERS ON SPECTACULAR FLIGHT: SEATTLE, WA - Six "Flying Fortresses" and 14 smaller bombing planes fly in formation near Mount Rainier. Spectacular scenes of the big war planes amid rugged mountain ranges. 1E. U.S. "BLITZ" UNITS STAGE SHOW: FORT BENNING, GA - The growing might of Uncle Sam's armored forces is demonstrated in a thrilling review by the 2nd Armored Division—10,000 men and 2,000 tanks, scout cars, trucks and other vehicles! 2. SWANKY SPRING HATS SHOWN: NEW YORK, NY - (Exclusive) The patriotic motif heads the list of "musts" for Milady's Spring bonnet this year, as shown in a Walter Florell display. Of course, "just plan chic" is still "tops" with the girls. 3A. PORTER'S CAP WINS BIG RACE: ARCADIA, CA - Big news in the turf world—the running of the $50,000 Santa Anita Derby. Before a gala crowd, which includes many screen stars, the favorite pounds down the stretch to win by 5 lengths. 3B. NEW VICE PRESIDENT IS HARDY: WASHINGTON, D.C. - Henry A. Wallace, new "second in command," is about the most athletic "V.P." ever. He spends an hour every day boxing, playing "paddle ball" and doing other exercises. 3C. NOTRE DAME CAGERS TOP N.Y.U.: NEW YORK, NY - Basketball at its best is the clash at the Garden between the "Fighting Irish" and the "Violets" of N.Y.U., and the crowds whoop it up as the South Bend "quintet" scores a thrilling 41-38 victory. 3D. WILLIE HOPPE RETAINS CROWN: CHICAGO, IL - The amazing Mr. Hoppe does it again! He's still the champ in the 3-cushion world after defeating Jake Schaefer in thrilling finals at Bensingers. And he had to battle illness as well as the best of players. (LOCAL – CANADA) ARMY’S SKI SCHOOL TRAINS INSTRUCTORS FOR DOMINION UNITS.
