The King Is Dead (Universal Newsreel, Feb 1952)
Description
The original release sheet reads: 1. THE KING IS DEAD / LONG LIVE THE QUEEN: The world is shocked and saddened by the sudden death of King George the Sixth of England. Following and illness of more than a year and a serious lung operation from which he appeared to be recovering, the Monarch died quietly in his sleep at Sandringham Castle, the place of his birth. As his fifteen-year reign came to an end, Princess Elizabeth, now Queen of England, rushed back from Africa, where she had begun a five-month tour of the Empire. A well-loved ruler's fifty-six years of life spanned a colorful period in British history during which the nation was involved in two major wars. Flags throughout the world fly at half mast, as nations join in Britain's mourning.
