POPE PIUS XII THANKS UNRRA: ROME - In special rites at St. Peter's, the Pope extends pontifical thanks to UNRRA officials for their part in helping alleviate suffering in war-ravaged Europe. It was Pope's last public appearance before rites elevating new Cardinals. 3. SHIP WRECKED IN ALASKA STORM: ALASKA - Dramatic first pictures of liner "Yukon" foundering on reef in severe storm. Almost five hundred passengers were removed to safety during daring rescue operations, although twelve lost their lives. 4.
