Description

The original release sheet reads: 1. SNOW AND SLEET HIT WHOLE EAST SEABOARD - The heaviest snow storm in five years blankets the entire middle Atlantic seaboard. In urban centers, traffic is at a standstill as snow buries roads and hundreds of thousands of commuters abandon cars for public transportation. But the eight inches and more of snow is a wonderful treat for the kids, after years of mild winters. 2A/B/C/D/E. EARTH SLIDE WRECKS HOMES: OREGON - Weakened by heavy rains, an entire hillside begins to slide in Astoria, turning a residential neighborhood into a disaster area. More than twenty families must abandon homes as pavements buckle, and foundations are crushed. / ROCKETS TEST HIGH SPEED WINGS: CALIFORNIA - Rockets test new high-speed wing designs in unusual flight tests, ripping into the stratosphere with automatic cameras filming the wing's reaction to super-sonic stresses. / MARCH OF DIMES OPENS: WASHINGTON, D.C. - 4-year-old Debbie Bains, this year's poster boy for the March of Dimes is greeted at the White House by President Eisenhower as the anti-polio campaign is officially launched. / EX-KING FAROUK IN ALPS: AUSTRIA - Candid scenes of Egypt's former playboy King, surreptitiously filmed as he greets guests in the courtyard of Mittersill Castle in Salzburg—a royal figure in ski clothes. / MISS UNIVERSE WEDS: CALIFORNIA - A Cinderella wedding for beauteous Christine Martel, Miss Universe of 1953. The seventeen-year-old French beauty marries department store heir Ronnie Marengo in colorful ceremonies attended by the bride's Parisian family. 3A/B/C. HOLLYWOOD ICE REVIEW BOWS: CHICAGO - The 1954 edition of the dazzling Ice Revue opens, with Barbara Ann Scott reigning over show, telling the story of Goldilocks on skates. Among other stellar acts are the Lavonnes with a torrid dance routine. / SKI CHAMPIONS MEET: AUSTRIA - Jumpers from seven countries meet in the Tyrolean Alps for the German-Austrian title. Norway's favored Olaf Bjornstad jumps 285 feet, but Austria's Sepp Bradl touches down at 300 feet for the title and a new meet record. / BARREL JUMPING: NEW YORK - The 1954 barrel-jumping championship gets off to a bone-crunching start as contestants unseat themselves in rapid order. Terry Brown of Detroit skates–or leaps–off with the title, clearing 14 barrels in a 25 feet 11 inch jump.
