Description

The original release sheet reads: 1. POLES OUST KREMLIN RULE, HUNGARY RIOTS - Nationalist uprisings shake Russia's satellite empire in East Europe. Poland successfully ousts Kremlin spokesmen in her government, after days of demonstrations and ominous troop maneuvers. In Hungary, seeking to follow suit, demonstrations give way to armed revolt, and Red army troops, tanks and planes battle in Budapest to stem the insurgents. 2. "BATTLE HYMN" HERO, COL. HESS VISITS KOREAN 'CHILDREN' - Air Force Colonel Dean Hess, the famed "Flying Parson" of World War Two and Korea, revisits the hundreds of Korean orphans who are now his wards, after his rescue of them from battle zones and founding of an orphanage. A modern new building is under construction now--to which is pledged his earnings from his book "Battle Hymn" and the forthcoming U-I film of the same name. 3A/B. HARMON AWARDS, for outstanding achievements in aviation, are presented by President Eisenhower, at the White House. Honored are the world's fastest woman pilot, and the pilot of the first round-the-world commercial jet flight. / CONCRETE BED - The Army Corps of Engineers gives Ole Man River a concrete bed, in a massive engineering job to check erosion of Vicksburg levees by the Mississippi. The huge mattress of flexible concrete is laid in a round-the-clock operation. 4A/B. SPORTS — HOT HOCKEY - The New York Rangers face the Montreal Canadiens, and set out to avenge a 5-0 defeat. Tempers are hotter than the game itself, penalties aplenty in a two-way thriller. Fighting all the way, the Rangers tie for 1st place in the League with a 3-2 win. / SNIPE CHAMPIONSHIPS - The Western Hemisphere Snipe Championships begin in Bermuda. A 17-knot breeze makes for choppy going over the seven-mile triangular course, and an attractive sight, as the trim little sloops representing seven flags–slip along. (TRAILER) THE BEST CAB RIDE.
