Description
The original release sheet reads: TRANS-OCEAN FLIERS OVERCOME PERILS TO ACHIEVE NEW GOALS -- 1. Post and Gatty Take Off on Daring Round-World Hop: BARREN ISLAND, NY - Oklahoma City fliers make perfect start in their effort to lower the record of 10 days made for the flight by the Graf Zeppelin. The Winnie Mae soars safely into the skies in an epic try for admission to aviation’s hall of fame. 2. Hillig and Hoiriis Leave on Hazardous Flight to Denmark: MINEOLA, NY - The beginning of the other successful trans-Atlantic hop sends Liberty, the plane used in the flight, off to a start cheered by friends of the upstate New York photographer. Easy and graceful the ship slips into the air on the hop which ended in Germany. 3. NEW TRAFFIC ARTERY ADDED IN EFFORT TO SOLVE BRIDGE JAM: NEW YORK, NY - Mayor James J. Walker snips ribbon opening new upper-deck roadway constructed at a cost of $2,000,000. The lofty highway is aimed to ease tangles in lanes to Long Island. Police escort steers chief executive through in comfort but 40,000 motorists struggle and sweat to be among first to cross. NEWS PARAGRAPHS: 4. VINCENNES, FRANCE - Wine-market workers hold annual keg tourney! — M. Farge is new champion after thrilling barrel sprint. 5. TACOMA, WA - Builds 8-foot house of cards! — Jack Rousseau uses 135 decks for odd edifice. 6. CHICAGO, IL - Texan on round-the-world walking tour! — Plennie Wingo, of Abilene, is different — he does it in reverse. 7. NATION ACCLAIMS INAUGURATION OF 13th PRESIDENT: PARIS, FRANCE - Paul Doumer succeeds Gaston Doumergue as head of Republic in historic palace of the senate where the 74-year-old chief executive served long and brilliantly as a legislator. New President accepts honor with reserve and a very evident display of modesty while thousands cheer him in Champs Elysees. 8. ERECT TENT CITY TO PROVIDE FOR RUSH OF DIVORCE SEEKERS: RENO, NV - Influx of candidates for marital freedom over-crowd hotels. Town fathers meet the crucial situation squarely by upsetting an old regulation and making a new one permitting canvas communities to be pitched. Jams are created by new short term residence provision and women amuse themselves by gambling before trials and when awarded separations toss their useless wedding rings into the Truckee River. 9. FIRE SWEEPS HARBOR; HUGE CONFLAGRATION CAUSES $10,000,000 LOSS: SAINT JOHN, NEW BRUNSWICK, CANADA - Exclusive Pictures of tremendous blaze reveals wake of flames fanned by stiff breeze destroying a wide stretch of West Side waterfront. Government and railroad buildings, two ships, and eleven docks, and at least ten homes razed. Billows of smoke enveloping city attract thousands to scene as entire fire department vainly attempts to halt destruction.
