The original release sheet reads: MAN IN SPACE PROGRAM ADVANCES Another advance for America's Project Mercury "man-in-space" program with the firing of a space capsule on a mission of destruction. Launched and returned to earth under the worst possible conditions, the capsule would still have protected an astronaut passenger, scientists conclude. With the news, the Project Mercury astronauts are weeded down to three candidates for the historic first flight .... AFTER THE BALL After the Ball, clean-up time! Europe's gala carnival merry-making is followed by removal of the gargantuan floats and effigies that highlight the pre-Lenten festival parades, a major task and half comical, half-sad for the clean-up squads. SPORTS PATTERSON WINS NEW YORK GLOVES CROWN Ray Patterson, younger brother of heavyweight champion Floyd Patterson, wins the New York Golden Gloves title in the heavyweight open class, with 16,000 fans cheering, among them ring great Gene Tunney.
