Glenn, Jr., goes into final rehearsal at Cape Canaveral as the day approaches for America's first manned orbital flight. The flight should put the United States on even terms with Russia in the space race. Glenn tells newsmen he feels he'll be 'safe' in space flight. NEW STORMS HIT MOST OF NATION Winter continues its wicked ways as new storms belt most of the nation with snow, sleet and ice. Kansas City, Mo., is buried under 21 inches. Chicago gets more than half a foot and spellbound San Francisco gets some, too. SPORTS WILMA RUDOLPH DEFEATED Olympic sprinter Wilma Rudolph Ward is hande a rare defeat by her teammate at the annual indoor track and field meet in Los Angeles. Budd of Villanova wins, and Jim Beatty nips French star Michel Jazy in a mile-long thriller. TOP SKI JUMPERS VIE FOR CROWN Anston Samuelsten, Norwegian-born Ski Jumper, gives the crowd of 7,500 something to talk about as he wins the national championships at Fox River Grove near Chicago, Steve Rieschl of Colorado places second among 120 riders of the snow slope.
