Description

The original release sheet reads: PRESIDENT ON MOVE IN NEW YORK VISIT Even while running for the Presidency, Mr. Kennedy hardly put in a busier weekend than this one in New York City. First, he dedicates a new apartment cooperative, erected by the garment workers union; then he is honored at a $1,000 per person rally that wipes out the Democratic Party deficit. Finally, he goes to the people for his medical care bill as he addresses an overflow rally in Madison Square Garden. LAOS TINDERBOX: COUNTRY QUIET; U.S. TROOPS ALERT Contingents of U.S. Marines land in Bangkok to bolster U.S. forces in Thailand, bringing to 5,000 the number of men the U.S. has deployed to Thailand in the Laos crisis. The country is quiet as optimism is expressed that a new coalition government can be formed. SPORTS THE RICHEST HARNESS RACE OF ALL Ten horses compete in the Messenger Stakes with $170,000 in prize money. "Andora's Dram," hitherto undefeated, is outpaced by "Lehigh Hanover" who pays his backers 71 to 1. RECORDS FALL IN WEST COAST MEET 40,000 people jam the Coliseum in Los Angeles for the 22nd annual relays and see records topple in the discus, shot-put and the mile run. Peter Snell, the New Zealand sensation, sets a new American mile mark of 3:56:1. "GREEK MONEY" WINS PREAKNESS THRILLER In a story-book finish, "Greek Money" battles "Ridan" down to the wire in the 86th Preakness and just noses out the favorites to win $135,000 top money.
