Description

The original release sheet reads: NEW RECORDS SET AT OLYMPIC GAMES As the Ninth Winter Olympic Games draw to a close the crowds are treated to thrill-packed events. In the super-dangerous toboggan singles the Germans run One, Two in the women's division and One, Two, Three in the men's. A highlight of the Games - at least for United States fans - is the performance of Terry McDermott, an apprentice barber from Bay City, Michigan. The speedy youngster pulls a major upset as he wins a Gold Medal by unseating the fabulous Russian, Yevgeny Grishin, in the 500-meter speed skating event. ARMY TESTS NEW 1 COPTER Reporting for Army duty at Los Angeles is a new jet-powered, light- weight helicopter that weighs a little over l,0OO pounds. It can carry a pilot and five fully-equipped troops. SURF BOARDS HEAD INLAND San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge looks down on strange goings-on. This is a new kind of surfboarding. You get up to speed behind a towboat and then you ride the wave. YESTERDAY'S BIG STORY JULY 28, 1945. NEW YORK CITY was shrouded in a smothering blanket of fog when scores of people heard a low-flying plane heading South. Then, an explosion! A Mitchell bomber had crashed into the side of the Empire State Building at the 79th Floor. The crew of three and ten other people died as the plane hit with such force that parts of it passed through the building and across the street.
