Ranger Reveals Moon's Secrets (Universal Newsreel, Aug 1964)

Description

The original release sheet reads: RANGER REVEALS MOON'S SECRETS The Ranger Seven is launched from Cape Kennedy in on of the most successful shoots of the moon age. Equipped with cameras designed to send back more than 4,000 pictures, the Ranger made the three-day, 240,000-mile trip without a hitch and photographed the moon in detail such as man has never observed before. Thus, the United States was carried across new thresholds in space and brought close to a landing on the moon. GREEK GIRL REIGNS AS "MISS UNIVERSE" There's a feast for the eyes in Miami Beach as they choose the beauty who is to reign as "Miss Universe". There are beauties from the lands below the equator as well as the pick of the European crop. Winner is 20-year-old "Miss Greece"...who wants to travel to outer space with queens like this on earth????? SPORTS PICK THE KITE-SKI CHAMP As a curtain-raiser to Austin's Aqua Festival they hold the first water ski kite championships. This calls for a 16-foot kite, a towboat and a lots of nerve! Ken Tibaldo proves the man who out-distances his rivals with breath-taking feats on high. It's a good thing someone told him as a youngster: "go fly a kite..." FASHION ON PARADE - "THE RICH LOOK" Universal Newsreel continues its coverage of the latest fashion trends, photographed in color. The "rich look may well be the "new" look as a result of Hollywood designer Jean Louis' latest effort. Assigned to create a million-dollar wardrobe for "the richest girl in the world-Sandra Dee playing the role in "I'D RATHER BE RICH" - he outdoes himself with glamorous and sophisticated gowns that are readily adaptable to any purse. That is, with the exception of the raincoat....it's snakeskin lined with (hold your hats) Chincilla fur.
