Description

The original release sheet reads: "DORA" AFTERMATH: PRESIDENT INSPECTS DISASTER AREA As hurricane "DORA" blows herself out with a last flounce, the people of Florida and Georgia were tallying more than $200,000,000 in damages. President Johnson flies down from Washington to make a personal inspection of the damage from Jacksonville Beach, Florida to San Simon Island, Georgia. He has promised government aid as he declares the devastated sections disaster areas. ARIZONA BEAUTY IS NEW "MISS AMERICA" In the same Atlantic City Hall where the Democrats choose their presidential candidates, there's another hot contest wage-the "Miss America" Pageant. "Miss Arizona (Vonda Kay Van Dyke) rounds the last few curves to take the title. There are floods of tears as usual. Tears of joy! You know how it is-a beauty queen never reigns, but it pours. FIRST UNITED STATES SWEEPSTAKES IS RUN The New Hampshire town of Salem goes down in history as the scene of the first legalized sweepstakes in the U.S. Six winners hold tickets on "Roman Brother" and they collect $100,000 each (with Uncle Sam hovering in the background for his cut). SPORTS TRACK STARS SHINE IN OLYMPIC TRIALS The finals trials to pick the United States Olympic Team projects a bright future for the team in Tokyo. Bob Hayes ties the American record in the 100-meter dash. Ralph Boston sets a new mark in the broad jump-a world record 27 feet, 4 1/4 inches. Another record is set as Rex Cawley clips a tenth of a second from the world figure. Now all we need is an encore in Tokyo.
