Description
The original release sheet reads: KASHMIRI WAR ENDS The lights burn late at the United Nations...beacons that illuminate the road to peace. The Security Council receives word from Pakistan that they will join India in accepting the UN's order for a cease-fire in the Kashmiri War. The acceptance comes just minutes before the 3 A.M., deadline set by the UN. Earlier the General Assembly voted for a new President and Italy's Amintore Fanfani is the almost-unanimous choice. He will greet Pope Paul who is shown in Rome presiding at the Fourth Session of Vatican Council Two. ART OF OUR TIMES New York's Lincoln Center is the setting for a monumental bronze by Henry Moore. The six-ton sculpture is set in a reflecting pool next to the new Metropolitan Opera House and Philharmonic Hall. Mayor Robert Wagner presents the City's Handel Medallion to the sculptor as his new work is dedicated. SPORTS FOOTBALL GEORGIA UPSETS ALABAMA...18 to 17: Old Man Upset goes right into action as the National Champ Alabama opens the season against Georgia. The Bulldogs go ahead early, but the Crimson Tide comes back to tie it up in the third quarter and then go ahead in the fourth. Then the sky falls in on Alabama as a Georgia pass, lateral and 73-yard touchdown jaunt makes it 17-16, Alabama. Georgia elects to go for two points on the conversion and they topple the champs by one point. 18 - 17!
