Vatican Council (Universal Newsreel, Dec 1965)

Description

The original release sheet reads: VATICAN COUNCIL The historic Ecumenical Council, Vatican Two, comes to a close amid colorful pomp and pageantry. What is looked upon as one of the most important councils in Catholic church history, Vatican Two saw 2,400 Bishops and other prelates revise many aspects of Church activity. An estimated 100,000 people crowd St. Peter's Square to receive the blessing of Pope Paul VI. PRINCESS HONORS MOTHER Even in Royal annals, this is an unusual ceremony. Princess Margaret, Chancellor of Keele University, confers a Degree of Doctor of Letters on her mother, Queen Elizabeth. Now will she introduce her hereafter as "My Mother, the Doctor?" STORMS LASH EUROPE ANEW The worst autumn storms of the century cause more havoc on the Continent from Scandinavia to Spain. The toll has been heavy in property and lives - and shipping has been especially hard hit. Off the Dutch coast a freighter goes aground - and the crew is rescued in a hair-raising frama. SEASON'S GREETINGS Here is a festival of lights and holiday decorations as a Christmas card to all. New York is typical of cities across the nation - the lights are a sparkling diadem that weave a festoon of Holiday cheer.
