Description

The original release sheet reads: THE KENTUCKY DERBY A Maryland-bred colt with the Hawaiian name, "Kauai King", takes the Roses in the 92nd running of the Kentucky Derby at venerable Churchill Downs in Louisville. He broke from the gate as leader and was never headed, winning by a half length over Advocator, with Blue Skyer, third. POLISH MILLENNIUM: CHURCH CELEBRATES TENTH CENTURY Over half a million citizens throng the streets of Cracow, Poland, to celebrate one thousand years of Catholicism in their country. Stefan Cardinal Wyszynski presides at the Mass and the procession of the famous and venerated Black Madonna. Despite Communist government pressure, the day proves the faithful are still firm in their faith. FASHION PARADE Pop Art, Op Art, and Kooky Fashions in France as milady shows off the latest things in short skirts, boots, peek-a-boo clothing, and weird accessories. Street scenes create lots of attention and comment, both pro and con, by passersby. It's all part of a world-wide revolt in fashion, setting a trend toward the exotic and bizarre. STANLEY CUP FINALS In the sixth game of the National Hockey League Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Montreal Canadiens win it in a sudden death overtime thriller, three to two, beating the Detroit Red Wings on their home ice in the Olympia Stadium. It's the second consecutive championship for the Canadiens and their seventh in the last eleven years.
