Description

The original release sheet reads: HOFFA Teamster Boss James Hoffa surrenders in Washington to begin serving his 8-year prison term for jury tampering. With his raincoat covering handcuffs, he arrives at Federal Prison in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. Parole is possible within 32 months. APOLLO PROBE NASA investigators continue to comb the blackened Apollo capsule to pinpoint the cause of the fire that killed astronauts Grisson, White, and Chaffee. A fireproof spacesuit fabric and quick-opening hatch may lead to a 1970 man-on-the-moon try. MEREDITH New York Republicans choose civil rights figure James Meredith to run against excluded Congressman Adam Clayton Powell, in an upcoming special election. Powell expressed contempt for his opponent, dismissing him with the remark, "Meredith who?" DANANG DEMONSTRATION South Vietnamese on the march, protest Viet Cong terrorism, peace-talk suggestions by U.S. and French political leaders and reports of a proposed "government in exile" set up in Paris. It marks the seventh day of such mass demonstrations by civilians. ARMENIAN DOCUMENTS Twenty-three previous Armenian Gospel manuscripts are taken off auction sale by Sotheby's of London following protests by church Prelates. The documents, 700-years old and worth over a million and a half, were allegedly taken from Jerusalem. ASTRO FASHIONS At a Planetarium in West Germany, fashion designers show their ideas of what future space-ladies will wear in the year two thousand. Plastic covers and capes, helmet-hats, and transparent boots are all highlighted in this "space-age" style show. MASS SKIERS In Sweden, the world's largest and longest ski race is run for the 43rd consecutive year. It's the "Vasa Loppet," with over six thousand skiers entered this year. The 53-mile course is a rugged challenge...and a five-hour run! TARKENTON Former Minnesota Viking quarterback Fran Tarkenton comes to the New York Giants in Pro Football's biggest deal of this year. During six seasons with the Vikings, Tarkenton has ranked among the top ten passers and is a natural "scrambler." SKIMOBILE RACE In Montreal, twenty-eight skimobiles compete in the second annual Players World Championship. The entries are from throughout North America with one from Finland. American Steve Ave wins the trophy in a rugged, speedy race.
