Roosevelt Re-Elected in Greatest Landslide in 116 Years (Universal Newsreel, Nov 1936)

Description

The original release sheet reads: 1. ROOSEVELT RE-ELECTED IN GREATEST LANDSLIDE IN 116 YEARS: FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT and the Democratic Party carry forty-six States, losing only little Maine and Vermont, in the mightiest election victory scored by any political organization since the triumph of James Monroe in 1820. Dramatic pictures show outstanding events of an exciting day, with the President voting at Hyde Park, NY, and later receiving the cheers and congratulations of his neighbors. Gov. Landon casts his vote at Independence, KS. Tremendous throngs jam Times Square, New York, celebrating the victory but others “pay off” election bets in queer and amusing fashion. 2. HENRY FORD BACK IN SCHOOL: DEARBORN, MI - The motor manufacturer re-visits scenes of his school-days as he pays a call at his boyhood school-house, now moved to his model Greenfield Village, on the occasion of Education Week. 3. BLAZING SHIP MAKES HARBOR: SAN PEDRO, CA - (Exclusive) With three holds on fire, a freighter hastens into port with her crew and cargo of Christmas packages gravely in danger. Thick smoke pouring from the opened holds long hinders firemen in their valiant efforts to extinguish the flames. 4. BURNED AREA SOWN FROM AIR: COQUILLE, OR - (Exclusive) The State Department of Agriculture solves the knotty problem of re-sowing burned-over forest districts in out-of-the-way sections by using an aeroplane that takes seeds aloft and spreads them. 5. TRAINS DIFFICULT PENGUIN: HERMOSA BEACH, CA - (Exclusive) Ralph Ruxford accomplishes the seemingly impossible as he teaches a penguin to wear clothes and do other stunts. It took twelve hours a day for sixteen months, but the bird now knows his bag of tricks. 6. GIRLS TRY PAINTED-ON SOCKS: HOLLYWOOD, CA - (Exclusive) Max Factor springs a new fad on a group of beauteous “Baby Stars,” painting stockings of eccentric but pleasing design on the tender flesh of the ladies’ limbs. 7. FOUL GIVES RACE TO MATEY: BALTIMORE, MD - (Exclusive) Walter Jefford’s Matey is awarded the classic Pimlico Futurity over Privileged when the latter’s jockey interferes with Matey’s running and the stewards disqualify his mount. (LOCAL – OREGON) HUSKIES DEFEAT OREGON / HUSKIES OVER OREGON, 7-0.
