Description
The original release sheet reads: 1. WILKINS OFF ON ARCTIC HUNT: NEW YORK, NY - Sir Hubert Wilkins, famed Arctic explorer, takes off with a crew of five to hunt for six lost Russian airmen in the northern wastes. Helen Jacobs' defeat of Ruth Hardwick clinches victory, but England takes the doubles. 3. MARINES READY FOR SHANGHAI: SAN DIEGO, CA - In a final tune-up before embarking for China, the 6th Marines stage a sham landing party against a contingent of sailors. At first the devil dogs are repulsed, but they push on to victory and are considered ready to sail for the Far East. 4. GIRL, 13, LATEST CHILD BRIDE: GAINESVILLE, GA - Another girl joins the ranks of recent child brides in the south when Montez Bennett, 13, chooses Friday the 13th to elope with Linton Whitmire, 20. ANOTHER WAY TO TILT A BARREL: HYNES, CA - As a feature of Holland Day, Dutch dairymen demonstrate the gentle art of barrel tilting—“Kuipjie Steken,” to you. Dashing past a teetering barrel, the idea is to hit the bull's eye—and if you don't, never mind drawing Saturday night's bath. 6. JOBLESS INVADE WASHINGTON: WASHINGTON, D.C. - Men and women, once on W.P.A. rolls, invade the nation's capital and set up camp as they await reinforcements for a “job march” intended to impress the nation with need of W.P.A. expansion rather than the curtailments that have taken place recently. 7. SNOW'S GOOD FOR A SUN-TAN!!: BROKEN TOP MT., OR - And here's proof! While the city swelters in a record heat below, these girls climb the mountain to the snow line where they can acquire a more perfect tan. The secret is in the sun's rays reflected from the snow—they prove it's good. 8. HOW TO PUT OUT THE CAT!!: ANACORTES, WA - In a cat puter-outer derby for the “Championship of the World,” the northwest's best compete in the city streets. Fighting a thirty mile wind, they jump from bed, thrust the cat out of a door and race the 25 yards back to “slumber.” 9. LIKE FATHER-LIKE SON...: CHICAGO, IL - Son of the world-famous speed king, Gar Wood, Jr., follows in his father's footsteps as he captures a classic mid-western outboard race. Piling up 2,000 points before the afternoon was half over, the younger Wood walked away with the event. (LOCAL – CANADA) WORLD’S LARGEST LETTER PRAISES NAT’L EXHIBITION.
