First Leg of Ike's Peace Mission (Universal Newsreel, Dec 1959)
Description
The original release sheet reads: 1. FIRST LEG OF IKE'S PEACE MISSION - Ike begins his epic three continent peace tour in Rome. Pelting rains for most of his stay keeps crowds to a minimum but the President's visit has considerable impact. In extended consultations with Premier Segni and other leaders, paying homage at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and in audience with the Pope, the President's intensive agenda of consultation and ceremonial sets a pattern for the remainder of his historic trip. 2. HUNDREDS DIE AS RIVIERA DAM BURSTS - Near Cannes on the French Riviera, the world's thinnest dam proves unequal to the burden of a river swollen by torrential rains. It breaks and a wall of water smashes down the valley of the Reyran River, bringing havoc and desolation. 3. MOB STORMS FIELD AS GIANTS TOP BROWNS - The New York Giants win the pro Eastern Conference Championship in an awesome display of gridiron power as they down their arch rivals 48-7, but their brilliant showing is far overshadowed by the frenzied mob of fans that storms the field when there's still 113 seconds left to play. The 20-minute fracas is the worst in any sports arena in many years.
