He becomes the first pontiff to fly in a helicopter as he travels 70 miles to the north to officiate at religious rites. -but he now becomes the central figure in another first at the Vatican. GERMAN 'CHUTISTS GET READY Members of a German Army parachute team supervise the packing of their own 'chutes before going aloft to practice.
