Description
OF DEPARTMENT NEWSFILM RELEASE OFFICE OF ASSISTANT SECRETARY OF DEFENSE (PUBLIC AFFAIRS) UNITED STATES AMERICA WASHINGTON, D.C. = 20301 OF PLEASE NOTE DATE IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 2, 1967 O ford 75111 No. 29-67 Footage: 140' 16mm Color Master Room 2E 771 OUTPOST ON THE HO CHI MINH TRAIL (Official U. S. Air Force Film Released by Department of Defense) The most important trails in Southeast Asia are the Ho Chi Minh trails, the pathway to South Vietnam from the North used by Communist forces to move troops, weapons and supplies in support of Viet Cong activity. But the enemy cannot use this portion of the Ho Chi Minh Trail because of this outpost at Khe Sahn which is heavily fortified and manned by soldiers of the South Vietnamese Army. The camp is surrounded by barbed wire and mine fields, and gun positions are manned 24 hours a day. Patterns of interlacing machine gun fire have been laid out, allowing the Viet Cong little opportunity of approaching even the first trench of riflemen without suffering extremely heavy losses. Located 95 miles from Danang, this area around Khe Sahn is supported by the 311th Air Commando Squadron at Danang. Everyday aircrews in C-123 "Provider" aircraft shuttle back and forth flying ammunition, food, and other supplies and equipment into the Khe Sahn area.
