Description

The original release sheet reads: STORMS LASH EUROPE Rains and winds of near-hurricane force sweep Europe from scandinavia to Spain - the worst such storm in 75 years. The entire continent followed the news about a fight to save the freighter "Gertrude Luehre." The vessel went ashore at Stade along the River Elbe and the crew battled for 12 days to save her. Salvage experts said it couldn't be done - but the dedicated men safely floated their vessel. SPORTS FOOTBALL ARKANSAS ENDS ANOTHER PERFECT SEASON The Razorbacks play host to Texas Tech at Fayetteville and the Cotton Bowl is at stake. Arkansas, winner of 21 straight games, doesn't come from behind until the third quarter when Jon Brittenum begins to shine at quarterback and sparks his team to victory. It's the second straight Southwest Conference crown for Arkansas. DARTMOUTH ENDS PRINCETON STREAK With a 17-game winning streak behind them, Princeton takes on Dartmouth for the Ivy League title. This game, too, is an aerial thriller with Mal Beard of Dartmouth tossing some brilliant passes - including the longest touchdown pass in Dartmouth history - 79 yards.
